During the school year children may go on field trips with their class or their grade. Class trips are determined and run by your child’s teacher.
Permission Slips:
In accordance with Chancellor’s Regulation A670, you will be notified in writing before a field trip. Your child’s teacher will notify you of the date, time, place, purpose and means of transportation for all field trips. You will also be informed if there is a fee for the trip-this fee must be submitted to your child’s teacher along with the completed permission slip. No verbal consent by phone will be accepted. Children without permission or whose parents donot want them to attend a field trip will be cared for at school.
Behavior:
All students on field trips are expected to follow the instructions of the teacher and other adults in charge. Children who are habitually disruptive may not be allowed to go on a field trip.
Parent Chaperones:
Throughout the year the students will be taking both class and whole grade class trips to different cultural institutions in and around the neighborhood. Our teachers rely on parent chaperones to help make each trip run smoothly and safely. We greatly appreciate your time and help! The teachers will do their best to make sure that everyone gets a chance to be a chaperone at least once during the year. If there is a fee for the trip chaperones are responsible for paying their fee. To ensure a successful, enjoyable experience for everyone, please review the suggested “rules of the road” below:
Turn off your cell phone. Sending text messages or talking on a cell phone distracts you from the class, the same way it distracts you from driving. Limit adult socializing. Remember, your main purpose is helping the teacher and caring for the children in your group. Do not cluster with other adults.
Chaperones and children must return to school with the class. Likewise, if you are a chaperone, your child may not leave the trip destination go home with you. You and your child must return to school.
In addition, please be mindful of the following:
- Younger and older siblings may not accompany you when chaperoning. Please arrive promptly at the school at the designated trip time.
- When taking a school bus for transportation, please help the teacher get the students seated and belted in.
- On a walking trip, help the teacher keep the children safe and orderly on the sidewalks and especially at street crossings.
- Unless otherwise planned with the head teacher, do not give snacks or treats to any of the students in the class or to your child.
- When at the trip destination, please help the children comply with the guidelines of the venue.
